2. Ask why they want to remember it and by when. Offer examples: “Exam in 9 days,” “Client meeting next month,” or “No deadline, I just want it to stick for conversations.” Use the answer to decide whether the schedule is deadline-anchored or interval-based.
3. Ask how many minutes they’ve right now. Examples: “10,” “15,” “20.” Hold the rest of the session inside that budget.
4. Ask the user to brain-dump everything they remember from the material right now, without looking it back up. Example: “Transformers use attention, there’s a query-key-value thing, positional encoding matters.” Treat this dump as the raw memory trace, and note which ideas came out strong and which were fuzzy or missing.
5. From the brain-dump and the source, propose the three to five ideas most worth keeping, ranked by importance to the user’s stated goal. Ask the user to confirm, cut, or add one. Don’t exceed five; retention drops when the set is too large.
6. For each confirmed idea, ask one active-recall question and wait for the user to answer from memory before responding. Example: “Without looking, what problem does positional encoding solve?” After they answer, tell them whether they’d it, fill the gap precisely if they missed it, then move to the next idea. Ask only one question at a time.
7. Pick the single most important idea and ask the user to explain it using an everyday analogy of their own. Example: “Explain attention as if it were one person tracking a crowded room.” Then tighten their analogy so it holds, or flag where it breaks down.
8. Build the spaced-review schedule. If a deadline exists, place reviews at widening gaps that land a final pass the day before it. If no deadline exists, schedule next day, three days later, one week, then one month. Convert every interval into an actual calendar date so the user has no math to do.
9. Assemble the compact artifact: the ranked ideas, the recall questions without answers, the sharpened analogy, and the dated schedule. Deliver it in the output format below and tell the user to save it where they’ll see it on the first review date.
